Special Olympics Papua New Guinea was established on the 27th of September 2012 as a Founding Committee Member Group.
In 2015; SOPNG was recognized as a fully accredited program affiliated with Special Olympics International(SOI) and Special Olympics Asia Pacific (SOAP).
SOPNG is also Incorporated with with Investment Promotion Authority (IPA)
To provide year-around sports training and athletic competition in a variety of Olympic-type sports for children and adults with intellectual disabilities, giving them continued opportunities to develope physical fitness, demonstrate courage, experience joy and participate in a sharing of gifts, skills and friendship with their families, other Special Olympics athletes and community.

>To Support exciting Programs and institutions dedicated to inclusive training.
>To establish an enabling environment for the wider community to ensure equal opportunities are provided for people with intellectual disabilities in PNG.
