Special Olympics Papua New Guinea was established on the 27th of September 2012 as a Founding Committee Member Group.
In 2015, SOPNG was recognized as a fully accredited program affiliated with Special Olympics International (SOI) and Special Olympics Asia Pacific (SOAP). SOPNG is also incorporated with the Investment Promotion Authority (IPA).
To provide year-round sports training and athletic competition in a variety of Olympic-type sports for children and adults with intellectual disabilities, giving them continued opportunities to develop physical fitness, demonstrate courage, experience joy, and participate in a sharing of gifts, skills, and friendship with their families, other Special Olympics athletes, and the community.

Founded on the 27th of September 2012, Special Olympics Papua New Guinea (SOPNG) was established to provide sports training and athletic competition for individuals with intellectual disabilities.
All our programs are conducted by volunteers, families, parents, siblings, relatives, and friends of people with intellectual disabilities. All executive members are volunteers who donate their time out of passion to support the most marginalized people in our country.
